Ketotifen is a type of asthma medication, which may reduce the frequency, severity and duration of symptoms of asthma attacks in children.
HOW TO USE: take this medication by mouth, usually twice daily. Do not crush or chew the tablets. Ketotifen must be taken regularly to be effective. Don't skip any doses. Don't stop with other drugs, unless your doctor tells you to. To decrease the effect of drowsiness of this drug, the dosage may be increased slowly during the first week.It may take several weeks before the full benefits of this medication are clearly noticed (usually within 10 weeks). After 2-3 months of using this medication, your doctor may decrease slowly using any other asthma medicines. Carefully follow the instructions of your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: Drowsiness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, or flu-like symptoms may occur.If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor. unlikely but report promptly: unusual weight gain, stomach pain, rash. Very unlikely but report promptly: unusual bleeding or bruising, irritability, nervousness or unusual excitability. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: before using this medication, tell your doctor your medical history, including: allergies (especially drug allergies).Limit alcohol as this could aggravate the side effects of medication.Caution performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving).Lower doses with corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone) must be done carefully under medical supervision and pharmacist.This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. this drug is excreted in breast milk. because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this medication is not recommended. consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
